Madonna Comix is the culmination of a collaboration that began in 2009 when poet Celia Bland encountered the work of visual artist Dianne Kornberg in Collaborative Vision: The Poetic Dialogue Project at the Chicago Cultural Center. Over the course of three years, Bland and Kornberg, who live at the country’s east and west extremes (Annandale-on-Hudson, NY, and Obstruction Island, Puget Sound, respectively), created the work through email exchanges, phone calls and a crucial in-person meeting at Kornberg’s remote island studio.
The work is a true collaboration, with skeins of poetry and snippets of other text woven inextricably into the prints and the artwork standing on its own as a startling new means of expression for the artist.
